Frozen lines and broken pipes can lead to expensive repair costs. Rest assured when you hire Pools & Cues & Spas, Too, the task will be completed correctly, and your hot tub will be safe!

Recommendations & Precautions
It is recommended that the customer tarp their spa and weigh the tarp down after we complete the winterization and have them remove snow loads off the cover or put sheets of plywood over the tarp. This is for protection of your cover and to prevent water from entering the hot tub (water WILL enter into the hot tub through the cover when the tub is empty.) Pools & Cues & Spas, Too does not supply tarps or plywood nor do we put the plywood on the spa or attach the tarp. This is the customer’s responsibility.
WHILE YOUR HOT TUB IS EMPTY: Mold & Mildew WILL build-up on the inside of the hot tub and cover if the tub is left empty for long periods of time, especially during the months of April – October. To prevent this from happening, it is recommended to open the cover every 2-3 weeks to air the tub out and prevent the mildew or mold build-up. We are NOT responsible for mold/mildew build-up after winterization. To clean any mildew or mold, you will need to clean the surface with bleach and water.

Opening Of Your Hot Tub After Our Winterization
Pools & Cues & Spas, Too makes it easy for our customers to open their hot tubs after they have been winterized! There is no need to have us back when it is time to open your hot tub, which saves you money! Simply follow these directions at time of opening:
PLEASE NOTE: At time of winterization, we have tightened all your hot tub’s unions and drain caps, so there is nothing you need to tighten or close when it’s time to open your hot tub.
Step 1: RINSE & FLUSH:
- Rinse Out the Antifreeze:
-Use a hose to rinse the footwell and seats, directing any residual antifreeze toward the drain.
-Open the hot tub’s drain valve briefly to let the rinse water carry out any leftover antifreeze.
-Close the drain valve when the hot tub is drained.
(If you don’t use your drain valve, you can just fill the tub up about 1/3 of the way and then drain the water out with your sump pump.)
- Optional Spa Flush: If desired, we sell a special product called Jet-Clean that is used to clean the plumbing lines. If you want to use this product first, stop-by our store before you’re ready to open it and we will sell you the inexpensive product and explain how to use it. We ALWAYS have it in-stock!
Step 2: FILL THE HOT TUB:
- Use a Hose Filter: Place a pre-filter on the end of your garden hose to reduce metals and debris.
- Fill Through the Filter Compartment: Insert the hose into the skimmer or filter compartment (not just the tub) so water fills the plumbing first—this helps prevent airlocks.
- Fill to Correct Level: Usually halfway up the skimmer opening or as indicated by your hot tub’s water-level mark (for our hot tub’s sold here, usually fill to right below the headrests.)
Step 3: RESTORE POWER & START SYSTEM:
- Turn Breaker ON: Restore power after the hot tub is full to the proper water level.
- Run Pumps on Low Speed: Circulate for a few minutes to push water through all plumbing and help remove remaining air.
- Check Flow: Verify that water is moving through all jets; if not, briefly loosen a pump union to burp trapped air, then retighten.
If you have any questions on this all, please do not hesitate to call us!
